LISTSERV alternative
LISTSERV popularised the reflector-list model this kind of organisation actually relies on — a member emails the list's own address, and it's redistributed to everyone else. That model is still right. What's dated is running it through email-based administrative commands and a list separate from the membership system that already knows who belongs where.
The same reflector model, administered from a web UI
Postrider's reflector lists work the way LISTSERV lists always have: a member posts to the list address (e.g. list@lists.yourdomain.org), and it's redistributed to every other subscriber with reply-threading so discussions read as a normal email thread. Managing who's subscribed, moderation settings, and digest frequency is a web admin screen, not a set of email commands sent to the list processor.
Lists that sync from your real membership data
A LISTSERV list's subscriber roll is its own thing — someone has to keep it aligned with who's actually a current member of a branch, region, or chapter. Postrider's Joomla connector reads real membership data directly and keeps lists in sync automatically, push-on-save plus a scheduled resync, so a list reflects current group membership without a separate manual roll to maintain.
Digest frequency, per subscriber, per list
Real-time, daily, or weekly digest — set per subscriber, per list — covers the same need LISTSERV's digest mode does, without a separate configuration syntax to learn.
One person, several lists, no duplicate opt-out risk
Membership organisations rarely run just one list — a branch list, a regional list, an executive list, often with the same people on several at once. Postrider tracks one global suppression state per person (a bounce or complaint applies everywhere) with independent subscribe state per list layered on top, so leaving one list never silently drops someone from another.
Built for exactly this kind of organisation
Postrider's first live deployment is a Joomla-based membership organisation, with the group-segregation and reflector-list model built around that exact use case — overlapping branch, regional, and role-based membership. If that shape matches your organisation, register your organisation to try it against your real membership data.
